This position will be filled through FDA's Staff Fellowship program. The appointment is for two years with opportunities for renewal.

This is an Excepted Service position under Title 42. Applications will be accepted from qualified US Citizens or permanent residents. No previous Federal experience is required. This appointment does not confer any entitlement to conversion to a position in the competitive service and no entitlement to Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) appeals rights.

  • The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM), Office of Research, Division of Applied Veterinary Research is seeking qualified appplicants for the positon of Molecular Biologist.
  • The Division of Applied Veterinary Research conducts applied and basic research using animals and animal systems in support of current and evolving regulatory issues.
  • The Division provides research solutions to issues of animal health, food safety of animal derived products, and other animal industry associated technologies.
  • As a Molecular Biologist, you will support research programs to evaluate the safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing quality of novel adult stem cell products.
  • You will do this by assisting in the development and validation of analytical methods used to establish the identity, purity, and cellular traits of adult stem cells
  • You will also perform biological procedures usin laboratory apparatus based on research requirements and collaborate and assist other scientists from industry, academia or government agencies in providing practical knowledge related to biology.

In order to qualify for this position, you must have the following:


Have a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.


Have a combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience of additional education.


Additional Qualification Requirements for the Staff Fellow Molecular Biologist, RG-0401-00 (equivalent to the GS-09)**: Have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level that includes conducting biological studies on companion animal derived adult stem cells, performing Flow Cytometry analysis, and assisting in monitoring research activities to ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP). This experience must be reflected in your resume. Volunteer experience can be used as qualifying experience.

ORhave 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree.

Additional Qualification Requirements for the Staff Fellow Molecular Biologist, RG-0401-00 (equivalent to the GS-11): Have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level that includes conducting biological studies on companion animal derived adult stem cells, performing Flow Cytometry analysis, and assisting in monitoring research activities to ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP). This experience must be reflected in your resume. Volunteer experience can be used as qualifying experience.

ORhave 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
