The Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University invites applications for the position of Director of the Peabody Preparatory. We seek an innovative, visionary, entrepreneurial, and accomplished arts administrator with experience leading educational programs within an arts or music organization. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of Institute Studies, the Director must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in educational and musical settings and possess a certain level of experience as an advocate for the arts in community contexts.
Note: Director of the Preparatory supervises staff and all faculty. Extensive weekend and evening work.
Specific duties & responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be a passionate and highly-motivated individual who is responsible for moving the Preparatory forward through strategic planning and innovative leadership while also maintaining the historical excellence of the Peabody Preparatory and the Peabody Institute. This role will be responsible for managing the functions and daily operations of the Preparatory including enrollment, fiscal management and program development, both onsite and online, for children through life-long learners; the candidate will recruit, support and manage staff and faculty; will lead marketing and fundraising efforts, and will establish and maintain relationships with local and regional communities and organizations .
The Director provides leadership and vision for the successful operation of the Preparatory. S/he is responsible and accountable for moving the Preparatory forward through strategic planning and innovation while maintaining the tradition of excellence for which the Peabody Preparatory and Peabody Institute is well known.
Minimum qualifications (mandatory):
Qualified candidates must possess strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills. S/he will also be a team player who is willing to take the lead and initiative in a small staff environment to ensure successful outcomes. Additional desired qualifications include at least 7 years of administrative experience in a leadership role and a record of successful teaching experience and/or significant experience in an educational setting for pre-collegiate students. Additional experience in designing, implementing and evaluating new programs rooted in technologies reaching beyond the classroom, specifically for life-long learners, will also be an asset. A bachelor’s degree is required and an advanced degree in music or arts administration is preferred.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.
The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
